See How They Run - Tom Bale

How far would you go to save your family?

In the dead of night, new parents Alice and Harry French are plunged into their worst nightmare when they wake to find masked men in their bedroom. Men ruthless enough to threaten their baby daughter, Evie

This is no burglary gone wrong.
The intruders know who they’re looking for – a man called Edward Renshaw.
And they are prepared to kill to get to him.

When the men leave empty handed, little do Alice and Harry realise that their nightmare is just beginning. Is it a case of mistaken identity? Who is Renshaw? And what is he hiding?

One thing is clear – they already know too much.

As Alice and Harry are separated in the run for their lives, there is no time to breathe in their fight to be reunited. And with their attackers closing in, there is only one choice:

STAY ALIVE. OR DON’T.

Terrifying, unputdownable and full of twists and turns, this stunning thriller will have you on the edge of your seat right to the very last page.

What did I think?

Having experienced intruders in the house during the night, it would be one of my worst nightmares to wake up during the night to discover masked intruders in my bedroom.  This is how See How They Run starts; with Harry and Alice waking to find intruders in their bedroom looking for Renshaw, a man they have never heard of.  They try to convince the men they have got the wrong house, but the men only leave after threatening to harm 8 week old, Evie, and making Alice suffer a degrading assault.  This, however, is only the start of their nightmare.

With fears over who they can trust and fearing for their lives, Alice and Harry find themselves separated and running across country in a fight for their lives.  Alice has a slight handicap as she has the baby, Evie, who likes to wail at inopportune moments.  Sometimes I was willing her to stay quiet and had to stop myself bouncing my kindle up and down to shush her.

It's such a fast-paced read that I felt like I finished it in no time at all, and could finally allow my heart-rate to get back to a more normal level.  I didn't know who could be trusted and felt that everybody could be working to their own agenda.  I even wondered whether Alice and Harry were the normal couple they claimed to be.  At one point, I don't think I was the only one who doubted this as one of the couple has a Freudian slip in a text.

I really enjoyed See How They Run.  There was so much suspicion and consequently many twists and turns that kept me hooked from start to finish.  Although I do love a good lasagne and can't think of anything that would put me off it, I will never look at it the same again, thanks to Tom Bale.

I received this e-book from the publisher, Bookouture, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
